eminem.jpgBig-name titles like Grand Theft Auto deserve epic movie treatments, but most of the time falls out due to budgetary concerns. According to Variety, a big-screen adaptation of the top-selling game was being readied quietly and was set to star Eminem until the whole project unraveled.

Rockstar parent company Take-Two was apparently in negotiations with an unnamed movie studio – one of the six major ones. Apparently, talks were so mature that there were prewritten stories ready and that rap star Eminem was being approached for the lead. Fortunately, or unfortunately, whichever way you see it, the deal “fell apart… at the last minute.”

Following the story, Rockstar North head Dan Houser sent out a denial to MTV News, stating that the studio was not involved in the project in “any way, shape or form.” He continues, saying that a film adaptation is not something that “we are currently interested in.”

A GTA movie wouldn’t really work, as it’d just be a basic crime/action/gangster film.
