Shane Kim: Xbox 360 Motion Control Would Need To Be Done Smartly

February 7th, 2008 by Erich Jurgens in News, Xbox360

The Xbox 360 has a lot of features unique to it as a console. It’s the only system with a very integrated online and friends list system. It’s the only console with a substantial form of achievements. It’s the only console with the red rings of death. One thing that both Sony and Nintendo obviously trump the 360 on, however, is motion sensing. During an interview, cooperate Vice President of Microsoft Game Studios, Shane Kim, touched upon the subject of motion sensing for the 360 and whether he considered it to be a necessary move on their part.

“I believe that great controller and accessory innovation is important, and that’s an area that we’ve enjoyed a ton of success in. Our accessories attach rate is huge. I think we have the highest-quality wireless steering wheel in the market. I’m really proud of what we managed to do with the Scene It controllers, because I really think that makes that kind of game a lot more accessible. So I think it’s important to not just do exactly what Nintendo has done. Because I think that, I’m not sure that that would get us anywhere. I think as many people would criticize us as applaud us, maybe more. So I think we have to be smart about how we introduce controller innovations, and entertainment experiences that will be more broadly accessible.”

There you have it. If Microsoft releases a motion control peripheral it will be of the same quality of the Scene It remote. One more reason I hope motion sensing is not implemented into the 360 controller.

FIRST THEY SAY 1080P IS MEANINGLESS THEN BAM THEY SUPPORT IT, THEN THEY DENIE AN HDMI PORT FOR THE 360 AND BAM NEW MODELS HAVE IT, THEN THEY SAY HDDVD IS BETTER AND BAM IT GETS SHOT DOWN BY BLU- RAY, THEN THEY TRY TO COPY SONY’S FOLDING@HOME PROJECT FOR SOME SALES AND BAM NEVER HAPPENED, AND NOW THIS… I WOULDNT BE SURPRISED IF THEY BROUGHT OUT A 360 WITH BUILT IN BLU-RAY
