Smash Bros Dojo: Marth
Today’s Smash Bros. Brawl update is one of the ‘hidden’ characters. Unfortunately if you’re really looking forward to the game, you’ve probably already found out the identity of most of the locked characters. He’s also not a huge secret, as he’s featured in the opening cinematic of the game. This character is a ‘royal prince’ (is there a non-royal prince?) according to the site’s post and is originally from the Fire Emblem series. His emphasis is on speed and agility rather than brute strength. He fights with a sword and it’s interesting to note that you’ll want to try and keep your opponents a few paces away, as striking with the tip of the sword does more damage than if you hit them with the edge.
One of his special moves, The Dancing Blade, allows for a lot of variety, as it consists of four successive sword blows, three of which you can control. The first controllable swing you can choose between an up swing, or a neutral forward swing. The next two you can choose up, down or neutral. Here are some of the moves in action:
Marth also shares a special movie with Ike. Both of them can counter an opponent’s attack, although it will require some careful timing. Marth’s counter-attack does less damage than Ike’s, but he raises his guard faster. Marth hits for 1.1 times the damage that was going to be inflicted on him. While that’s not a huge multiplier, it could make a big difference when countering a blow by one of the heavy-hitters, and it’s far better than taking a hit yourself of course.
His final smash is a critical hit in the style of the Fire Emblem characters. Holding his sword aloft, it shines for a moment before he delivers a stunning hit on an opponent, when a life gauge appears and decreases.
