Smash Bros. Goes Platinum

February 12th, 2008 by Will Prusik in Action, News, Wii

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone at all, given the track record of Nintendo’s first party Wii titles, but Smash Bros. Brawl has gone platinum in Japan. It had sold more than three quarters of a million copies a week after it was released, and it took only an additional week to sell the rest of the million copies needed to attain platinum status. So far this is the fastest Wii title to hit platinum status. Wii Sports, which isn’t bundled with the console in Japan, took eleven weeks and Wii Fit took seven weeks to attain platinum status. You might want to head over to your local game retailer and pre-order a copy as retailers in Japan have reported as much as 90% depletion of their stocks. You might find it just as hard to get as a Wii when the time comes. God help you if you’re trying to get both at once!
