Wal-Mart Drops HD DVD

February 15th, 2008 Posted in News, PlayStation 3

Last night we reported that a new story had hit the wires about Toshiba finally calling it quits, at least rumored, in the coming weeks. The sources were strong, and all signs point to yes. However, with Netflix and Best Buy both out of the picture, one major retailer was left, who very conveniently supplied hammers, nails and required materials to build the coffin.

Wal-Mart has officially joined the party, and will be no longer stocking HD DVD products, instead eliminating stock and hopefully will be completely HD DVD free by June. Susan Chronister on the Wal-Mart blog even had a snappy remark, to let you know the war is really wrapped up. “So … if you bought the HD player like me, I’d retire it to the bedroom, kid’s playroom, or give it to your parents to play their John Wayne standard def movies, and make space for a BD (Blu-ray disc) player for your awesome Hi Def experience.”

At this point in time, we can only count down the few remaining days before the gauntlet it put to rest.
