Wii Surpasses GameCube Lifetime Sales

February 15th, 2008 Posted in Business, News, Wii by Will Prusik

Well it hasn’t officially done so yet, but the numbers say it’s inevitable. As of February 9th the total sales since its launch were 21.490 million. The GameCube sold just over 21.5 million units in its lifetime. Based on sales of the Wii last week, they’re selling about 64,000 units daily, which means that in no time at all it’ll beat the gamecube. It’s got a long ways to go to beat any of the other Nintendo consoles however. The N64 is next highest with 33 million, the Snes has 39 million and the original Nintendo has over 61 million sales in its lifetime. The real high bar though is if the Wii can ever beat the PS2’s incredible 120 million lifetime sales.
