There have been reports that the UK government may be drawing up plans to introduce a new classification system for videogames, bracketing it with movies. The Interactive Software Federation of Europe does not want that to happen, instead recommending the government to stay with the ‘trusted and understood’ PEGI/BBFC shared ratings system.

“It’s not the same experience,” said ISFE director general Patrice Chazerand. “It’s a step backwards.”

On the other hand, a representative from the BBFC remarked that the organization would be willing to rate all games were a new classification system to be introduced by the government.
