Sony Launching Licensed Apparel Plan

March 5th, 2008 Posted in Business, News, PlayStation 3

There’s nothing Americans love to be more than walking billboards. Walk down the streets of any town or city and you’ll see people sporting tshirts with the Nike ’swoosh’ logo on them, jeans with patches exclaiming their makers conveniently located right above their posteriors (so you can know whose jeans will make your booty look just as good),  the mascots of sports teams as well as the names and numbers of the players, bands, political candidates and causes. Sony’s planning on taking advantage of this profitable publicity by making licensed apparel for some of their more popular titles. You probably won’t be seeing a PS3 cereal anytime soon, you’ll be seeing merchandise for God of War, Ratchet & Clank, Resistance Fall of Man, Heavenly Sword and Little Big Planet along with other Sony franchises. Since gaming has maintained its popularity as many people got older, there are plenty of us who would feel akward driving the kids to soccer practice in a Heavenly Sword tshirt or experience a significant level of cognitive dissonance going to the campus peace rally in a faux-blood splattered God Of War hoodie, there’s going to be a decently wide range of items coming from several companies. IV Gear Inc is going to handle tshirts, headgear and ‘other apparel’; Fortune Fashions will also be making tshirts as well as Hoodies, which are going to be aimed at “mass retail channels” (meaning that these will be available at your local ‘Hot Topic’ or other teen-aimed store); Bioware is going to handle headware, bags and accessories (I’d love to see a girl sporting a pair of earrings shaped like Kratos’ swords); last but not least is MJC who’ll be making boys and young men’s lounge war and boxers.
