Uwe Boll Bashes Spielberg

When you think of famous, talented movie directors some prominent names likely leap into your mind: Scorcese, Coppola, Spielberg. Even Clint Eastwood has sat in the directors chair and proven that he’s more than just an angry face. While I’m sure some movie fanatics could debate the relative merits of each director and might even consider some of those top names to be relatively overrated, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who’d agree that Uwe Boll is a talented filmmaker. He’s taken it upon himself to challenge perrenial favorite Steven Spielberg to a box office duel. He’s betting that his film adaptation of Postal will beat out the newest Indiana Jones film in its opening weekend. While the film industry is often unpredictable and relatively unknown films like Juno can snowball into major successes, it’s likely this is something of a publicity stunt, as the new Indy flick has star power, advertisements and a whole fanbase already going for it. Postal is theoretically based on a video game which gives it a small boost due to the gamer crowd that would go see anything based on a game. I haven’t seen any advertising for it anywhere (and I live and work in New York City) and the game itself wasn’t terribly popular. Throw in the fact that the Postal film has a handful of lesser known celebrities and a director known for his cinematic failures and you’ve got a recipe for a box office flop. In truth, were any other director attached to the film, I might be inclined to see it. I’m not opposed to mindless, crude humor, just when it’s badly directed.

It’s not fare. He’s somehow able to continue to finance all these crap movies when that money could be used for much better things.
