Ubisoft Acquires "Tom Clancy" Name, Saves Lots of Money
In what can be deemed as an expensive move, Ubisoft has announced an agreement with Tom Clancy to acquire all intellectual property rights to the “Tom Clancy” name for use in video games and other related products such as movies, books and even merchandising.
The price of the acquisition was not disclosed, though Ubisoft did mention that it will help save “at least five million euros a year,” which is quite a lot of money.
Tom Clancy gained fame and (now) fortune when he began working with video games when he co-founded Red Storm Entertainment in 1996. The studio went on to create the original Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon titles; it was later purchased by Ubisoft, who banked upon the franchises and expanded Tom Clancy’s name to over thirty titles now.
