9554 Following up on their purchase of the Tom Clancy name, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed at a conference call that the company is developing a Tom Clancy-based massively multiplayer online game.

Gamasutra quotes him as saying, “We are ready and decide now to go for an MMO on the Clancy name.” Guillemot noted that they had been considering a MMO based on the license for quite some time, but had held off as it would have increased the company’s royalty payments to Clancy.

“With the royalties we had, it was another barrier not to create the game, because the return on investment was diminished by that,” he said.

He did not state if the MMO will be set within an existing Tom Clancy franchise, such as Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six, or will be a completely different game altogether.
