More Blu-ray 360 Rumors

April 1st, 2008 Posted in News, Rumor, Xbox 360

controllercontrollerIt’s hard to do internet news today. Everyone’s pulling pranks all over the internet. Whether it’s the Postal cat silencer, the Diablo Loot Pinata or this wonderful product which begs someone to really create it for Wiiware, there’s a whole lot of jokes out there ready to trip up the writer who takes things a little too seriously. One rumor has surfaced that begs consumption with that perennial grain of salt, not because it’s humorous, but because we’ve heard it denied rather strongly thus far. After the death of HD-DVD many assumed that Microsoft would be doing everything they could to get Blu-ray addons for the Xbox 360. Following some reports that talks had begun, MS representatives came out and put a kaibosh on those rumors, stating that the company was going to be focusing in on downloadable media through the Xbox Live Marketplace. It seems that according to industry sources Lite-On is developing Blu-ray drives for the Xbox 360. The report on the website is slightly confusing as it claims the drives are for a ‘next generation xbox 360′. Whether that means we’re talking the next Xbox in the lineup or simply a new SKU is uncertain, but since the report also states that shipments have already begun it’s more likely it’s the latter, assuming this is true at all.
