Nokia Quietly Launches N-Gage Platform

Looks like the portable space might get heated… slightly at least, with Nokia officially releasing their N-Gage platform for several Nokia phones. With the DS dominating and the PSP taking a somewhat distant second, the portable space is a tough nut to crack. Nokia’s N81, N81 8GB, N82, N95, and N95 8GB phones are all compatible with the new platform. You’ll be welcomed with five titles including Brain Challenge, System Rush: Evolution, and World Series of Poker as the ones worth mentioning.

Of course, more content is on the way, eventually. Worms, Sim Pets, and Tetris are all sure to be fairly major hits on the platform when they eventually release. I think this is an interesting effort, but we’ll have to keep our eyes peeled on the iPhone, which truly is going to be the grounds for proving whether a phone can truly cross into the portable gaming space, or if that remains fairly limited to Nintendo.
