Games For Windows Mag Closes Up Shop

It is sad to see so many print magazines fall to the wayside in recent years, one of the unfortunate side effects of the internet, is that it is increasingly hard for magazines to have up to date stories by the time they go to print. Although it by no means helps when the magazine in question is for a brand that hasn’t really fallen to the side in recent years as well. Today it was announced via Jeff Green, the editor’s blog, that after 17 years the magazine would be closing its doors. The games for window magazine itself has only since been re branded for the last 17 years, and unfortunately Games for Window has not taken the world by storm, and probably in part signed the death warrant.

The good news is that the editors will be staying with 1up, so jobs will still be saved. The bad news naturally is that for a lot of people, we lose another piece of history. Take a peak at Jeff’s blog to gain all his insight as he announces the end of the magazine.

“For me personally, the closing of Games for Windows: The Official Magazine is not just a business decision (though, obviously it?s exactly that in reality), but feels more akin, in fact, to the passing of a loved one. Drama much? Well, you can scoff if you want, but the fact of the matter is that I have poured my heart and soul into this magazine, month after month after month, for over 10 years now. Every four weeks for 10 years I have done my best to get a quality magazine out the door, and the fact that I don’t have that deadline now is not in any way, despite the temptation to go for gallows humor, a source of relief. It feels like a giant gaping hole in my life.”
