Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe Announced
In what has to be the weirdest crossover I have ever seen, Midway has announced Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, the eighth entry in the fighting series, which will see characters from either franchise duke it out against each other.
In development at Midway Amusement Games, the game is powered by Unreal Engine 3 and is slated to hit PS3 and Xbox 360 this Fall. Four characters have been confirmed so far: Superman and Batman from DC Comics, and Mortal Kombat veterans Sub-Zero and Scorpion.
The game, if comments made by a Midway representative are true, will not feature the series’ trademark ultra-violent Fatalities. This may be due to the inclusion of DC Comics characters. However, players will still be able to pull off some form of a finishing move.
The storyline is said to be a collaboration between the Mortal Kombat team and DC Comics writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray. Apparently, the game picks up as “a cataclysmic force merges conquerors from two universes.”
More details are expected soon.
