singstar-90s People obviously love to sing, no matter how much they suck at it. Proving this, the European outfit of Sony Computer Entertainment sent out word that over 12 million units of SingStar games have been sold across the PAL region to date, with 5 million of them during the fiscal year of 2007 (April 2007 – March 2008) alone.

The first SingStar title was launched on the PS2 back in 2004, attracting audiences of various ages and backgrounds to make a fool of themselves in front of the television. December 2007 saw the launch of the next-generation version of the game on the PS3, which offers downloadable content in which players can purchase songs through the SingStore. It also allows players to share their performances with others through the PlayStation Network. In fact, over 20,000 videos have already been shared – they have been watched a total of 2.5 million times.

The franchise is yet to catch on in regions outside of Europe, though. Thank God!
