Head honcho at Rockstar Games, Dan Houser, is not a shy man when it comes to expressing certain opinions about casual gaming that has been all the rage recently. “Fuck all this stuff about casual gaming,” he told the New York Metro.
“I think people still want games that are groundbreaking. The Wii is doing something totally different, which is fantastic. We’re hopefully going to prove that there’s also a very big audience for people who want entertainment in another form, who think of games as being a narrative device that can challenge movies.”
Houser notes that too many developers are concerned with making games about the same old themes – “orcs and elves, or monsters, or space.” Standing as a contrast, Rockstar makes games “about something we could actually relate to… Or aspire to,” he points out.
The rest of the interview has him talk about violence in films and TV shows, as well as his company’s flagship franchise. He also talks about how they made GTA 4, among other things.
