Wii’s Nintendo Channel Goes Live

May 7th, 2008 by Jeff Baker in News

While previously said to have a release date of May 12th, the Wii’s Nintendo Channel, which has been available in Japan for some time now, has officially gone live across North America. To snag the channel head to the Shop Channel and look for the download.

The Nintendo Channel adds several new features to the Wii that is sure to give the console a fresh and updated feel for those beginning to tire of it. Some of the less interesting features include the ability to download things like interviews, commercials, and other videos regarding Nintendo.

On the other hand the Nintendo Channel opens up a whole new window, allowing players who have played a game for more than 1 hour to review it and upload it to the channel which Nintendo will then use to recommend high rated games to players, pretty cool. Oh, and Nintendo DS owners will benefit from this new channel as you will now have the ability to stream DS demos straight from the Wii.

While Nintendo’s online service is still no Xbox Live, this is certainly a step in the right direction.
