Bayonetta, Infinite Line and Madworld Announced
Ex-Capcom superstars are now working with Sega, having revealed their new projects. Sega has partnered with PlatinumGames, the studio headed by these stars, to develop and publish three new titles – Madworld, Infinite Line and Bayonetta, as well as a fourth soon-to-be announced title being directed by legendary gaming icon Shinji Mikami.
“The creative forces at PlatinumGames bring a new level of imagination into the SEGA family at a pivotal time in the video game industry when the demand for quality, originality and fun has never been greater,” said Tatsuya Minami, President and CEO, PlatinumGames. “These new titles will contribute meaningfully to SEGA’s brand, while adding a new level of depth to the strategic portfolio of games in our library.”
Madworld, set for release during Q1 2009, is a third-person action game exclusive to the Wii. It has a unique black and white style, depicting an incredibly sharp backdrop that goes back to the world of graphic novels. The player must battle enemies using weapons and items found in the environment, including chainsaws and street signs, while entertaining sports commentary adds to the third-person gameplay.
A role-playing game exclusive to the DS, Infinite Line takes place in outer space, allowing players to control, build, outfit and customize more than 150 spaceships. It offers over 200 characters and the ability to control multiple ships at the same time. It is being touted as the most complex DS RPG till date and is due out for release in 2009.
The third title is Bayonetta, a stylish and cinematic action game being directed by creator Hideki Kamiya for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Referring back to the DMC franchise, players use over-the-top moves to take on countless angelic enemies. Outlandish moves can be performed in stages that are described as a “veritable theme park of exciting attractions”. It is also set for release sometime next year.
