EA on Rock Band Sales, Madden Going "Holographic" and Take-Two
Quite a few bits of interesting details came out of EA’s financial call with investors, and Gamasutra has more. The site reports that EA executives revealed that Rock Band has sold more than 1.5 million copies during the quarter; they also talked about their acquisition attempt of Take-Two, as well as the games they are releasing alter this year.
While full sales figures for Rock Band aren’t available, the insanely popular Harmonix-developed band simulator sold over 1.5 million copies alone in the last quarter. In comparison, Guitar Hero 3 sold over 1.4 million during its starting week.
EA execs talked about the 20th anniversary edition of Madden, noting that it will employ a “holographic interface” – no details were offered for what they meant by the interface. The company aims to release 55 games in the coming year, including 30 for PS3 and Xbox 360, over 20 for the Wii, 18 for the DS, eight for the PSP, 30 for the PC and 15 for the aging PS2.
As for Take-Two, company CEO Riccitiello noted that there was very little he could say on the matter, though he mentioned that the current $2 billion valuation of the company “fully took into account GTA 4” and that the company is working with the FTC on the deal.
