US April Sales Figures Released; GTA 4 360 Outsells PS3

The NPD Group has released the US sales figures for the month of April, surprising no one by stating that Grand Theft Auto IV is the month’s top-selling console title, with the Wii being the best-selling hardware.
However, the numbers get interesting once you get into it. The Xbox 360 version of GTA 4 sold 850,000 more copies that the game’s PS3 version, resulting in a ratio of 1.8:1 for Xbox 360 and PS3. Interestingly, the Xbox 360 hardware outsold the PS3 by a mere 900 units, showing that the PS3 is indeed gaining steam in the market.
Mario Kart Wii, as Nintendo announced earlier, sold 1.1 million units, followed by Wii Play at 360,000. The highly anticipated racing simulator Gran Turismo 5 Prologue sold 224,000 copies; the rest of the chart was dominated by Pokemon titles and Guitar Hero 3 and Call of Duty 4.
“It’s unusual for three games to exceed the 1-million mark in a non-holiday month which just goes to prove that great content can succeed regardless of when it is launched,” noted NPD analyst Anita Frazier.
