Gears Of War 2 Trailer Causing A Stir

May 21st, 2008 Posted in Action, News, Xbox 360 by Will Prusik

It used to be that when a game hit the market people would start to complain about its content or tone. Nowadays with the internet we can get sneak peaks into games before they’re even close to completed. Unfortunately, so can ‘concerned parents’ and activisits like Jack Thompson. We’ve barely gotten a taste of Gears of War 2 and already red flags are going up in the press.

The first game of course was made well-known partially for the brutality of the chainsaw attached to the character’s gun, but in the sequel you can do a move pulled straight from Schwarzenegger’s The Running Man, sawing your enemy in half starting with the groin and moving upwards. Also objectionable was the ‘meat shield’ move where you grab an enemy and use it to shield yourself from fire while attacking. Amusingly the news post that raises these issues inaccurately states that in the ‘meat shield’ move the player defends himself with a corpse when in fact the shield is quite alive, as demonstrated by Marcus’ snapping its neck before dropping it to seek less fleshy cover.
