WiC Developer: DX10 Effects Possible on Consoles
May 21st, 2008 by Rajiv Ashrafi in PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox360
While Microsoft may want you to believe that DirectX 10 effects can only be achieved in Windows Vista with compatible hardware, Massive Entertainment does not think so. The studio, speaking to Videogamer, has said that many of the graphical effects exclusive to the DX10 API can be achieved outside of DirectX10 “if you give it enough time and resources.”
Massive development VP Petter Sydow, the origin of the quote above, also states that at least some of those DX10 effects will appear in the console editions of World in Conflict when it is released later this year.
“At this point we’ve managed to replicate some of the [DX10] effects, but I don’t know what features will make it into the final release,” he noted. “We’ll keep on working on them and see what happens.”
World in Conflict is being ported to the PS3 and Xbox 360 for release this Fall. The PC version of the game featured beautiful DX10 graphics.
