Legendary director James Cameron believes that the future for gaming and entertainment lies with stereoscopic displays, which creates the illusion of depth to human eyes.
“Stereo production is the next big thing,” he said during a lecture at Microsoft’s Advance 08 Conference. “You are in the game. This is the ultimate immersive media.”
He noted how this concept is important in a first-person shooter to make it more immersive. Cameron revealed that the Ubisoft-developed Xbox 360 game that will be adapted from his upcoming 3D movie Avatar currently sports stereoscopic imagery via 3D glasses; he was quick to point out that certain displays don’t require the glasses to get the effect.
Of course he wouldn’t offer a release date for the game, though the movie is due out sometime next year.
