Microsoft: First to 100M Wins Console War
Microsoft executives may be smart and clever, but sometimes they do and say stupid things that make the whole company look bad. However, today isn’t that day, in fact today is a good day for the company, as Microsoft Game Studios VP Shane Kim offered a reasonable, level-headed statement.
Kim was talking about the console war, which he believes is still going on, but will be won by the first company to reach 100 million units sold. Microsoft recently announced that it has sold 19 million units worldwide, though it is trailing the Wii which has sold about 25 million units.
“[We can call it] when somebody’s well on their way to reaching 100 million units,” Kim told Game|Life.. “This is only the third year of our existence and only the second year of Sony and Nintendo’s existence. Are we just amusing ourselves by trying to declare a winner and loser while the customers are still out there deciding?”
The PS3 has been doing surprisingly well despite being such a newcomer to the market. Let’s see where this goes.
