It seems that the various ‘Warriors’ games are to Japan what World War II games are to the USA. They’re always more or less the same, but that is probably the appeal of it. Hot on the heels of the announcement that the original Warriors Orochi, the crossover game between the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors universes shipped over one and a half million units across its various systems comes word that the next chapter will be released in the USA later this year.

Instead of simply rehashing the same plotline and battles that the Dynasty Warriors series has so often done, Warriors Orochi 2 will be a true sequel to the first. After bringing the heroes of both games together by magic the Serpent King Orochi has been defeated. You can’t keep a good villain down of course, so a sinister alliance has formed intending to resurrect the Serpent King. Once again a group of noble heroes must fight against this alliance.

There will be story modes for the three main factions from the Dynasty Warriors games as well as one for the Samurai Warriors characters. There’ll also be an Orochi storyline that will explore the secrets and history of the Serpent King. Taking a page from the Gundam installment of the series they’ve added a Dream mode that features an original storyline. Added in as usual are a smattering of two-player versus features, most of which will probably go ignored as they often do in favor of the main story modes.

In addition to the characters from both the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors games some new heroes from history will be tossed into the mix, putting the stable of characters over ninety. The game will be coming in September to both the Xbox 360 and PS2.
