Thompson Expecting Disbarrment

Today is a day that could go down in video game history. Various senators and politicians including Hillary Clinton have waggled their toes in the anti-video game pool, but nobody’s spent as much time there doing the backstroke as the infamous Jack Thompson. He’s harassed industry members with emails and phone calls and is finally getting his comeuppance for his blunt methods.

Today the lawyer faces a sanctions hearing in Miami where Judge Dava Tunis will issue recommendations on the penalty for his misconduct charges. The judge already recommended that Thompson be found guilty on a weighty 27 of 31 charges against him. One of the possible penalties, and one that Thompson expects according to some of his comments, is disbarrment. For anyone less savvy in the world of legalities it means this: he might not be a lawyer anymore. Sure, he could still be a public nuisance by making talk show appearances or by putting his voice out there via internet media, but he wouldn’t have the power to actually do anything. He’d have as much real power as the most rabid fanboy (read: none).

Unfortunately we won’t know the absolute end result today as Judge Tunis was only appointed to referee the case. Tunis’ final report will be sent to the Florida Supreme Court on September 2nd. The Supreme Court of course has the final say in the case.
