Having hyped everyone on the 3D-ness of James Cameron’s upcoming epic movie Avatar, Ubisoft head honcho Yves Guillemot burst everyone’s bubble today by revealing that the game will only be playable in 3D on certain HDTVs.
Guillemot notes that the technology that will be used to make the game appear in 3D has been designed only for “a specific TV” and glasses that work with it. He points out that the display is already available in the US, though the adoption rate of such a display won’t pick up until at least a couple of years.
Those of us with “old” HDTVs will have to settle for the lesser 3D version. The game is in development for Xbox 360 for release alongside the film next year.
