Massive Layoffs at LucasArts, KOTOR MMO Rumored

June 8th, 2008 Posted in Business by Rajiv Ashrafi

lec_tm_mark_2c A rumor started yesterday that LucasArts was to lay off a significant number of its employees. This came from Kotaku, who speculated that up to 100 employees were rumored to be laying off, with another tipster claiming that the company was making a MMO based on the Star Wars KOTOR universe, a second sequel to Battlefront, a Wii lightsaber game, and another LEGO Indiana Jones game.

All that said and done, Shacknews carries confirmation from a LucasArts spokeswoman about the layoffs, noting that the workforce reduction is not “indicative of troubled times at the company,” but that the company is “healthy.”

“I can confirm we had layoffs yesterday they were in the studio,” said LucasArts public relations director Margaret Grohne. “They had to do with where we are in our product life cycles.”

She wouldn’t, however, confirm if the abovementioned games are in development or not.
