Could it be that the excessive advertising nowadays is just getting habitual? Product placements are common in films, and some movies even have collaborative commercials with various products. Even video games have been turned into interactive billboards to some extent. A study showed that believe it or not, most people are’t terribly bothered by the advertisements.
In a study where gamers answered questions after playing a game that featured in-game advertisements, a surprising 82% of people reported that they felt the game was just as enjoyable with ads and without. Some even said that the advertisements make the games more realistic. Certainly that could be the case in racing games and anything set in a modern metropolitan area.
It also seems to actually work. There was a 33% increase in positive brand association after exposure to in-game advertisement. Of course it’s entirely possible that this is a short-lived thing and would only affect people shopping right after a game.
