While many gamers look for a lightning-fast adrenaline fix, the growing popularity of turn-based games like the various ‘Tactics’ games shows that the more patient, chess-style entertainment still holds massive appeal for a segment of the gaming population. Adventure games have always been popular PC titles, from the classic Monkey Island series to the beautiful and often supremely frustrating Myst games. The genre is getting revamped and aimed at a younger audience with the well-known Hardy Boys getting their own series of titles.

They’re going to be based on existing stories harkening back to the early 20th century as the amateur detectives make their debut as stars of a video game (they’ve already been featured in several of the Nancy Drew titles). Jesse McCartney (Alvin and the Chipmunks, Summerland) and Cody Linley (Hannah Montana, Cheaper by the Dozen) have signed on to voice the two protagonists. Starting with a remake of the original Hardy Boys tale ‘The Tower Treasure’ titled Hardy Boys: The Hidden Theft the games will be released over the next five years.
