MK vs DC Gets Fatalities, Still Has T Rating

mk-vs-dcu-1 There was speculation that the upcoming entry in the Mortal Kombat franchise – Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe – would lose fatalities due to the collaboration with DC Comics. However, that is not the case, according to series co-creator Ed Boon, who dismissed any speculation on the matter.

“All of the MK characters and all of the DC villains will have fatalities,” Boon told GameSpot. “The DC heroes who don’t kill that often will have brutalities that will function just like fatalities but don’t actually kill the opponent.”

When Midway announced the game, it mentioned that MKvsDC would be the first title in the series to aim for a Teen rating from the ESRB, prompting many to infer the removal of fatalities.

“I was surprised to see so many stories stating (with so much certainty) that the game wasn’t going to have fatalities,” added Boon. “In an odd sort of way, I was actually impressed to see how much passion the MK fans still have for the series. If they didn’t care, you wouldn’t have seen anywhere near the volume of discussion that came from the announcement.”

The T rating still remains, but Boon reassured fans that the game will still contain blood effects, sound effects and animations that are “really pushing the T-rating envelope.”

The game is due out this Fall on PS3 and Xbox 360.
