July 31st, 2008 by Rajiv Ashrafi in PlayStation 3, Xbox360

naughtydogf6nt Continuing its support for Sony, Naughty Dog designer Richard Lemarchand went on record to state how good he thinks the PlayStation Network is over Xbox Live, and how Sony is planning to improve it.

The Uncharted developer, speaking with IGN, said that the PS3’s trophies build off of Xbox 360’s Achievements, noting that the social aspects provided by the system could become “the norm across all gaming systems.”

“I like the fact that you can pull them up and look at them in-game anywhere you are on the PS3 interface,” he added. “I think there’s going to be other things coming down the pipe that’s going to give PSN as a whole a competitive edge.”

While he would not divulge details of upcoming additions, he was excited by web connectivity and user-oriented content systems offered in Sony’s upcoming lineup.

The technology is reportedly going to make use of Google’s contextual advertising system and is functional in console games, computer games and mobile phone games. It has been in testing phase for several months.

Google is yet to make an official announcement about the software. It currently has several competitors, including Massive Inc, which, earlier this year, extended its reach in the industry.

And so, I think that the company’s position on us and what we do is that we’re going to be breaking down barriers and breaking down doors.” As for the BioShock sequel, Levine noted that he was “not substantially” involved with it. “I’m doing my thing and making my game,” he said. Levine also touched on rumors that he is difficult to work with and that this had caused many employees to transfer from 2K Boston to 2K Marin. “It’s not something I can respond to, there’s no point in it,” he said. “Look at the BioShock credit list and see how true that rumor is. My personality? I don’t know. Maybe I am an asshole.”

Why PA Adventures Took Such a Long Time to Come to PSN

July 29th, 2008 by Rajiv Ashrafi in Action, Adventure, PlayStation 3

penny_arcade_adventures As much as we would like to speculate just how much the guys at Penny Arcade hate the PS3, it wasn’t the reason why Penny Arcade Adventures was late to the PlayStation Network. It was technology, who is to blame.

Vlad Ceraldi, president and CEO of Hothead Games, revealed that they had to redo the entire engine of the game for the PS3 release.

“At that point we were fully committed to getting the game done as soon as we could,” Ceraldi said. “So we focused on PC, linux and what we had already announced, the Xbox.”

“As soon as we finished and got approved we moved those developers to the playstation and they started working on it for the Playstation Network,” he said. “Until we got it running the way we wanted to look, we weren’t going to announce anything.”

“As soon as we did a full play through of the game we announced.”

He notes that future episodes of the game will be released on all the aforementioned platforms within weeks of one another.
