‘Fanboy’ Official

After ‘woot’ was honored by being a ‘Word of the Year’ in 2007 it seems internet vernacular is getting a foothold on the English dictionary. ‘Fanboy’ was offiically added to the dictionary along with around a hundred other new words. It seems that the wired generation isn’t quite the first group to popularize this word: it’s been used as far back as 1919. The definition given is: “boy who is an enthusiastic devotee, such as of comics or movies.” While it could use a little tweaking as both men and women can be ‘fanboys’ and it often seemed to be applied in a derogatory fashion, implying someone’s zeal for a particular company or brand approached the level of fervor that caused them to disregard any of its flaws.
