Hot off the merger, Activision Blizzard has disclosed plans that it is considering developing an online music platform similar to Apple’s iTunes utilizing the Guitar Hero brand.
“I don’t think there have been a lot of credible alternatives to iTunes but Guitar Hero certainly has that potential,” said Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick.
The series has so far generated over $1 billion in revenue for the company, with the executive noting that the online music platform would be a “natural evolution” of the franchise.
Interestingly, Vivendi Games (who merged with Activision) is the owner of Universal Music, which Kotick hopes to make use of.
It would certainly be interesting to see a credible iTunes rival, but I don’t believe the Guitar Hero brand has that much potential.

1But I felt like going up to Guitar Hero and politely saying, ” Look, dude. Please be silent, but we’ll interrupt over Guitar Hero. DS Guitar Hero Basilica is also impressive.
