Sometimes the hot toy item for a holiday shopping season is gone with the melting snow. When’s the last time you saw someone with a Tickle Me Elmo doll or a Furby? The Wii is breaking this trend by having enough staying power that there are still not going to be enough to go around this holiday season. Last year saw stores taking advantage of the demand by selling Wiis solely in bundles to the annoyance of Reggie Fils-Aime.
We seem to have stepped through a time warp as Satoru Iwata is warning/apologizing to the public as we might see a similar situation this year. Nintendo is of course working on churning out as many units as possible, but they say that the demand this year might again outstrip the supply. Apparently the most Wii-hungry area is the USA, where they plan on shipping an appropriately disproportionate number of units compared to Europe and Asia.

4Another holiday, another Wii rush. It really is starting to get annoying now. Until I get a true sequal to Donkey Kong 64 (not that drum tapping and barrel racing bullshit!) Nintendo can just burn in hell along with their casual gaming customers.
