July 26th, 2008 Posted in Action, Xbox 360 by Rajiv Ashrafi

marcus_fenix_futurama Variety reports that the feature film adaptation of Gears of War has gained the financial backing of Legendary Pictures.

Legendary will co-finance and co-produce the project alongside New Line Cinema, which secured the rights for the adaptation in 2007. It marks the latest gaming move from Legendary, who are also involved in Blizzard’s Warcraft and Diablo films.

The movie is being helmed by Die Hard 4 director Len Wiseman, who will be using a script drafted by Chris Morgan. Gears of War lead designer Cliff Bleszinski is serving as both executive producer and consultant.

While no release date is attached to the film, it is expected sometime in 2010.
