While nothing wets the appetite quite like a demo, sometimes developers have a hard time deciding what piece or pieces of a game can give you an accurate sample of its true potential. Some games like Fallout 3 simply eschew a demo, citing difficulties in condensing the experience. Occasionally companies take a road that means slightly more work: creating a sort of ‘mini-game’ in the demo. By creating new content it’s possible to custom-tailor an experience to include all the important aspects of the game.
The team behind Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is taking this route, with a demo featuring exclusive content coming to both Xbox Live and the Playstation Network some time in August. How much of the content will be truly new is unknown, the only definite details are that there will be an ending to the demo that won’t be featured in the full game when it comes out on September 16th.
