Crash & Spyro Franchises To Get Reinvented

August 1st, 2008 Posted in Business, News, PlayStation 3 by Will Prusik

Mascots can be a tricky thing to work with after their first few titles. Mario set an incredibly high bar for mascots by being incredibly versatile. His games have spanned styles and genres to almost universal success. This doesn’t seem to work for everyone however: Sonic the Hedgehog has been reinvented several times and not to universal acclaim. Many fans hope that the franchise will be laid to rest entirely.

After the giant company that came of the merger between Blizzard and Activision sucked up Vivendi games the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon franchises were predictably held onto. As two series that helped establish the Playstation lineup, Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith says that the two franchises “have a lot of runway left” and “are ripe for reinvention” and that this will be part of their focus for the future.
