Analyst: DS Successor Out Later this Year
While such statements are to be taken with buckets of salt, one cannot help but feel giddy when talk of a DS successor is thrown around. This time around it was the oft-quoted Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter, who stated his belief that Nintendo will announce a successor to their highly popular dual-screened handheld later this year.
“We think that the timing of a new product introduction will depend upon the sales profile for the DS, and believe that lower than expected DS hardware sales could trigger an earlier launch for the new device,” he said.
He further noted the system’s weakening sales in Japan, adding that it might prompt the introduction of a DS successor in the region before the end of the year. This is supported by Nintendo’s recent sales figures for the platform which showed a decline of hardware sales, though it still stands strong against the PSP.
Nintendo is yet to announce or say anything about a possible DS successor.
