Sony: We Don’t Need Seniors

August 7th, 2008 Posted in News, PlayStation 3 by Erich Jurgens

You know what we haven’t had in a while? Sony commenting about how the Wii doesn’t effect them. Luckily ps3Sony’s Vice President of product marketing, Scott Stienberg, has taken the liberty of stepping in with a small stab at Nintendo. During an interview, Steinberg commented that Sony does not need a controller to appeal to seniors, they need to focus on converting PS2 owners into PS3 owners.

“And as a brand, Nintendo’s got their thing, and we’re not trying to get the senior citizen group to get into gaming, we’re looking to convert the PS2 owners and the tens of millions of installed base that were playing DVDs and playing games on their PS2, to now play Blu-ray movies and Blu-ray games with their PS3.”

Granted, the quote isn’t a blatant attack at Nintendo, unlike so many other quotes from Sony, but Steinberg still failed to mention how much of a beating their product is taking from the “senior citizen group” appeal that the Wii has.
