August 13th, 2008 Posted in Business

midway_logo_qjpreviewth Midway has laid off 90 employees from its Austin studio and canceled an unannounced project in development. The layoffs are part of a “strategic workforce reduction”, according to the company, which will cut about 10% of Midway’s global workforce.

“While this was a very difficult decision, we feel it was the right thing to do for the future of Midway,” said company CEO Matt Booty. “We view every game as an investment that must meet certain standards for quality, scheduling, and profitability.”

While the game wasn’t officially announced, Kotaku reports that the cancelled game was Criminal, an open-world title in the vein of GTA.
