Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero 4 Get Cross-Compatibility on PS3
Posting on the PlayStation Blog, SCE PR director Michael Shorrock revealed that Sony has brokered an arrangement between the developers of Rock Band, Guitar Hero and Rock Revolution to ensure instrument interoperability on the PS3.
“We have been working closely with Neversoft and Activision, Harmonix and Konami to ensure that PlayStation 3 guitars and drum sets will all feature a basic level of gameplay compatibility,” he wrote.
He explained that both the drum kit and guitar from Guitar Hero 4 and Rock Band 2 will work with each other; drums and guitars from both titles will also be compatible with Rock Revolution, while that game’s drum kit will be compatible with the other titles.
Shorrock also noted that microphones from SingStar will be compatible with both Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero 4.
As for compatibility between the current games in the market, he wrote that the company is “working hard” and that they hope to have an announcement shortly.

What a bunch of crap!
I bought Guitar Hero 3 for the PS3 with a Guitar with is compatible with absolutely nothing! I also bought Rock Band for PS3 with the Guitar and Drums and those aren’t compatible with any version of Guitar Hero on the PS3.
It’s been this way for over a year and there was a patch available but pulled at the last minute! Where is this patch? Please release it! This is not a problem on the Xbox. Why is this a problem on the PS3??? Please no more excuses! Make it happen!
I refuse to buy another Activision product – Guitar Hero included – until this issue is resolved. I hope every one else joins me in a boycott. Rockband has a superior product and customer service anyway.

I also like how they keep progressing this series, for example, GH5 (Wii) you can now pop your mem card in and stream new music straight to the console. It’s awesome and I hope this is a new way with upcoming Wii games!
