If you’re feeling guilty about throwing down a ridiculous amount of money on upgrading to a PS3/Xbox 360 with a boatload of games and peripherals, you can assuage some of those feelings by donating your old console to charity. Website VenJuvo has an electronics donation program called Trade4Cause where you can choose your particular item of choice (unfortunately for the most part there isn’t an option to send in outdated consoles or handhelds like the GBA or PS1) and they’ll donate a certain amount to a charity of your choice.

You choose your system of choice, indicate how many controllers/cables/games you’ll be sending in with it and the condition of the system and they’ll quote you the amount you’ll be able to donate for it. After getting the quote (which is only an estimate, the actual amount is pending inspection of the console on receiving it) you can choose one of their listed charities or choose ‘other charity’ and enter the information for your preferred cause. Just to price out a few things, an original Xbox in fair condition with one controller, power cable and A/V cable is valued at only $14, while an original PSP in good condition with a working battery pack and power cord is worth $24. Of course the values go up for newer more expensive systems in better condition, but this is an excellent way to get rid of that old system to make way for any new holiday swag.
