Backtracking from their previous statement, Microsoft has finally accepted the fact that they are still number two, this time to Nintendo.
The company acknowledged the success of the Wii, while at the same time declaring victory over Sony’s PS3.
Microsoft VP Don Mattick told Businessweek: “I’m not at a point where I can say we’re going to beat Nintendo … [but] we will sell more consoles this generation than Sony.”
The man is right, but his statement is in a way flawed. Xbox 360 launched a year ahead of the PS3, giving it a head-start over its rival console.
The Wii has sold approximately 24.5 million units since launch; the Xbox 360 follows at 19 million, with Sony coming in last at 13 million units.
