Harry Potter Game Delayed

After the announcement that the newest Harry Potter film would be pushed back until Summer 2009 everyone wondered what would happen with the tie-in game. Most of the time tie-in games, especially those aimed at the family/kid friendly audience, have to rely on hordes of excited children with absolutely no consumer savvy and their often clueless parents who might spend hours researching the newest hybrid car or upright vacuum cleaner but don’t bother to check if the newest title they’re buying little Johnny is worth the $30-60 they’ve put down for it.
The Harry Potter brand is a veritable powerhouse that is fully capable of moving millions of units on its own. Stir in the fact that the last title was actually an enjoyable, well-crafted game, with the wand-waving control scheme of the Wii contributing to its appeal and you’ve got a recipe for success. The new title will keep the wizard duels and add Quidditch and potion brewing to the mix. The bad news is that despite the fact that the game would be a hit, especially with the holiday season looming, they’ve decided to push its release date back to Summer 2009 to coincide with the debut of the film.
