Levine Not Heavily Involved With Bioshock Sequel

Some intellectual properties are a success because of the creativity and ambition of their creators, but when later installments emerge it’s a bit of a mixed bag as to how things go. The Indiana Jones films benefited greatly from the continued involvement of Steven Spielberg while the Star Wars prequels suffered from Lucas’ heavy handed direction.

Bioshock was a rousing success, delighting many with its quality gameplay and deep, intricate story. While the main story arc seemed rather finished at the end of the first game, the incredible sequence of events that had unfolded before your arrival to the undersea city of Rapture lends itself to more tales. A sequel is of course already underway in the 2K studios in Marin, but apparently the original series’ designer Ken Levine has very little involvement with it: “I am, at best, sort of informally engaged in certain scenes, a couple of things in it,” said Levine. “But I’m not really working on it at a material level.”

The sequel is in the hands of a producer from the original title, who is overseeing the group at Marin working on the title. It’s going to be entirely in their hands as Levine and the 2K Boston studio are working on a new IP.
