Wii Hit With Infringement Lawsuit

September 18th, 2008 Posted in Business, News, Wii

The unfortunate biproduct of success is the rampant desire to leech off that success. Nintendo has already been hit with accusations of patent infringements about the DS and now the Wii has come under fire.

Some might have heard about this already as Hillcrest Labs filed a complaint against the company in August. They claim that Nintendo’s motion sensing technology has violated four of their motion sensing patents. It’s been taken to the next level as the US’s International Trade Commission is currently investigating the matter.

If Hillcrest Labs is successful, the Wii could be taken off the market, which would of course be a huge blow to Nintendo with the holiday season just ahead and expectations of massive sales on their part. Nintendo has of course vowed to defend themselves. Given the massive amounts of money Nintendo has in their coffers, we’ll see who can hire a bigger and better army of lawyers.
