Avatars Required In New Xbox Upgrade, New Options May Have A Cost

While some might be excited about the potential of the Xbox Avatars, many hardcore gamers are giving a big ‘who cares’. Even the Miis, the Wii’s avatars, have rather limited useage outside the few games intended specifically for them.
At the Tokyo Game Show, Aaron Greenberg of Microsoft announced that any Xbox 360 user will be forced to select an avatar when they first boot up their system after the November 19th update launches. Fortunately you won’t have to really put any effort into it as you can simply select one of the pre-made template avatars and just push buttons until you’ve got an avatar.
For those who enjoyed creating existing characters like Darth Vader or Pikachu in Mii form by creative use of eyebrows and mustaches there’ll be a plethora of options and maybe more to come. All the starting options will be available free of charge for the excited and the apathetic alike. When asked if any future updates will be free as well Greenberg said that they would “keep their options open”.
