Despite what analysts may think and gamers may pray for, Sony will not lower the price of its PS3. Sony has maintained so far that its primary focus now is on profitability seeing as how much money they bled on developing and releasing the device.
However, the company has recently come under pressure to lower the price due to Microsoft dropping the price of the Xbox 360 to a low $199 for a hard drive-less version. Even after all this, Sony Computer Entertainment president Kaz Hirai directly stated that PS3 pricing will not change this year.
"The answer is yes, if you’re asking, ‘Are these the prices we’re going with this Christmas?’" he told the Financial Times.
He continued, saying that although the PS3 is more expensive, it offers a better value for consumers due to its inclusion of a hard drive and the Blu-ray player.
Ah well, maybe next year.
